Hershberger bioassay
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005223
A standardized in vivo assay used to detect the androgenic or antiandrogenic activity of chemical substances. Castrated male rats are treated with the test compound, and the weights of androgen-sensitive accessory sex organs, such as the ventral prostate and seminal vesicles, are measured. An increase in organ weight indicates androgenic activity, while a decrease suggests antiandrogenic effects.
