Spiked bioassay approach
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011194
A sediment toxicity testing design in which clean sediment is spiked with a graded series of toxicant concentrations and test organisms are exposed in each, giving a concentration-response relationship for effects on survival, growth, or reproduction. It can also be used to test whether a suspected contaminant explains effects seen earlier in field-collected sediment. Standard test species include the amphipod Hyalella azteca and the midge Chironomus dilutus.
