Carcinogenicity test

A long-term animal bioassay designed to determine if a chemical agent can cause or increase the incidence of cancer. In these studies, groups of laboratory animals are exposed to the test substance over most of their lifespan, after which tissues are examined for neoplastic lesions. A standard rodent bioassay for carcinogenicity testing lasts for approximately two years.
