Cytomegalovirus

A common human herpesvirus that can cause a range of symptoms, from asymptomatic infection to severe disease, especially in immunocompromised individuals or newborns. It is known for its ability to establish latency and reactivate later. Congenital cytomegalovirus infection can lead to developmental abnormalities and neurological deficits in infants.
