Vigilance decrement

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012575

The progressive decline in the ability to maintain sustained attention and detect target stimuli during a prolonged monitoring task. This deterioration in performance is a hallmark of tasks requiring vigilance and manifests as an increase in missed signals and slower reaction times as the task continues. The rate of decrement is typically steepest during the first 15 to 30 minutes of a continuous vigilance task.
