Buffer
Term · Computing and IT · MLC-T-CMP-000142
A region of physical memory used to temporarily store data while it is being moved between processes or devices. Buffers compensate for differences in the rate at which data is received and the rate at which it can be processed, or for differences in data packet sizes. Video streaming applications use a buffer to download several seconds of content ahead of the playback point, preventing stuttering due to network latency.
