Session Initiation Protocol, a signaling protocol used for initiating, maintaining, and terminating real-time sessions that include voice, video, and messaging applications. It defines the messages exchanged between endpoints and the procedures for managing calls or conferences. SIP is widely used for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications.
