Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000588
A pre-burned strip of vegetation used to control the spread of a prescribed fire or to reinforce a control line against a wildfire. Crews intentionally ignite this narrow band of fuel under controlled conditions, creating a barrier of black, burned ground that the main fire will not cross.
