A British Railways coach code for a brake van with no gangway connections, carried on four wheels. The B stands for brake and the Y suffix for a four-wheeled vehicle, and the six-wheeled equivalent was coded BZ. Such vans carried the guard and luggage or parcels, unlike the gangwayed full brake coded BG.
