Caustic
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001011
An envelope of light rays reflected or refracted by a curved surface or object, forming a bright, concentrated region. This phenomenon occurs when parallel rays of light converge after interacting with a non-planar surface, such as the bottom of a swimming pool or the inside of a coffee cup. The caustic represents the locus of points where the light intensity is theoretically infinite.
