CDI
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006851
An electronic ignition system, its name an expansion of Capacitor Discharge Ignition, used in internal combustion engines. It stores an electrical charge in a capacitor and then discharges it through an ignition coil to produce a powerful spark at the spark plug. This system provides a faster voltage rise and a shorter, more intense spark compared to inductive ignition systems, making it suitable for high-RPM engines found in motorcycles, chainsaws, and some cars.
