Cold frame

A bottomless, unheated enclosure with a transparent top, typically made of glass or plastic, used to protect plants from cold weather. It functions by trapping solar radiation, creating a microclimate warmer than the outside air. Cold frames extend the growing season and harden off seedlings before transplanting, maintaining temperatures several degrees above ambient.
