The surface or boundary between two different types of rock or geological formations. In mining, the contact between an ore body and the surrounding host rock is of particular interest, as it defines the limits of the deposit. The nature of this boundary, whether sharp or gradational, influences the selection of mining methods and the degree of ore dilution.
