Crossheading

A small passage or airway driven between two parallel headings or roadways in a mine, mainly for ventilation. Crossheadings, also called crosscuts or stentons, form a network that carries fresh air from the intake airway to the working face and back to the return airway, and they are one of the standard elements of coal mine ventilation.
