Crosshead
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001459
A mechanical component that guides the piston rod in a reciprocating engine or pump, converting the linear motion of the piston into a precise linear motion for the connecting rod. It prevents side thrust from being transmitted to the piston, reducing wear on cylinder walls. Crossheads are common in large slow-speed diesel engines and steam engines.
