Emitter-coupled logic is a high-speed bipolar transistor logic family that avoids saturation of its transistors, thereby reducing propagation delay. It uses a differential amplifier input stage and emitter-follower output stage. ECL circuits are known for their fast switching speeds but consume more power than TTL or CMOS logic.
