Feathered
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002206
Describing an edge that has been tapered to a very thin, fine line, blending smoothly into an adjacent surface. In painting and auto body repair, a feathered edge is created by sanding the perimeter of a filled or repaired area to create a gradual transition that will be invisible after painting. This technique prevents the outline of the repair from showing through the topcoat.
