Gating
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002530
The process of controlling the conduction of a semiconductor device, such as a thyristor or an insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT), by applying a signal to its gate terminal. This control signal determines when the device switches from a non-conducting (off) state to a conducting (on) state, allowing current to flow through the main circuit. In power electronics, precise gating is used in converters and inverters to shape AC waveforms and regulate DC voltage.
