Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor: A three-terminal power semiconductor device primarily used as an electronic switch in power electronics applications. It combines the high current handling capability of a bipolar transistor with the high input impedance of a MOSFET. IGBTs are widely used in variable frequency drives, electric vehicles, and uninterruptible power supplies.
