The smallest unit of weight in the avoirdupois and troy systems, used in aviation maintenance and ballistics for precise measurements. It is used for balancing components like propeller blades and turbine rotors, where small weight differences have large effects at high rotational speeds. One grain is legally defined as exactly 64.79891 milligrams.
