Microsegregation
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003649
The localized variation in the chemical composition of an alloy that occurs on a microscopic scale during solidification. This phenomenon, also known as coring, results from the preferential rejection of alloying elements into the remaining liquid as solidification progresses. Microsegregation can be reduced by homogenization heat treatments.
