Paddy field

A flooded parcel of arable land used for growing semi-aquatic crops, most notably rice. These fields are typically surrounded by earthen bunds to retain water and are prepared by plowing and leveling before transplanting rice seedlings. Paddy fields are a characteristic feature of rice cultivation in many parts of Asia and provide a unique ecosystem.
