Polygonization

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004403

The process by which a deformed crystal lattice rearranges itself into an array of slightly misoriented subgrains, separated by low-angle grain boundaries. This occurs during annealing at elevated temperatures, driven by the reduction of stored strain energy. Polygonization is a recovery mechanism that precedes recrystallization.
