Pull-down resistor

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004572

A resistor connected between a digital logic gate's input pin and the ground or negative voltage rail. This component establishes a default low-state (logic 0) for the input pin when it is not connected to an active output, preventing it from floating to an indeterminate voltage level. The resistance value, typically in the range of 1 to 100 kilo-ohms, is chosen to be high enough to avoid drawing excessive current from an active high signal.
