Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005085
Supersonic Combustion Ramjet, a type of jet engine that operates by compressing incoming air through its forward motion at supersonic speeds, then combusting fuel within that supersonic airflow. Unlike a conventional ramjet, a scramjet does not slow the air to subsonic speeds before combustion. This engine design is suitable for hypersonic flight, typically above Mach 5.
