Water popping

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006535

The process of applying a thin layer of water to a sanded hardwood floor or piece of wood before staining. This technique intentionally raises the wood grain, opening up the wood's pores to accept stain more deeply and evenly, resulting in a darker, more uniform color. After the water is applied, the surface must dry completely, which takes from 30 minutes to several hours depending on humidity.
