Counterclaim

A claim filed by a defendant against a plaintiff in the same lawsuit, asserting that the plaintiff is also liable for damages or injuries. It is a separate cause of action that is heard concurrently with the original claim. Counterclaims are a common feature in litigation and can significantly alter the dynamics of a legal dispute.
