Without prejudice

A legal designation indicating that a court action or a party's communication in a dispute does not affect their right to pursue the matter further. A court case dismissed without prejudice allows the plaintiff to refile the same lawsuit at a later time. In settlement negotiations, correspondence marked this way cannot be presented as evidence of an admission of liability in subsequent court proceedings.
