Arrearages

The accumulated amount of payments that are past due, most frequently in the context of court-ordered child support or spousal support (alimony). This total represents the sum of missed payments that a person was legally obligated to make. Courts can enforce the collection of these debts through measures such as wage garnishment, interception of tax refunds, or the suspension of professional or driver's licenses.
