Cloture
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-001029
A parliamentary procedure used in legislative bodies, particularly the United States Senate, to end debate on a bill, motion, or other matter and bring it to a vote. In the U.S. Senate, it requires a three-fifths vote of the senators duly chosen and sworn, which is currently 60 votes. Invoking cloture is the only way to overcome a filibuster.
