The court, tribunal, or other judicial body with the proper jurisdiction to hear and decide a particular legal case. The selection of a forum involves considerations of geography (where the parties reside or the event occurred) and subject matter (the type of case). A defendant may challenge the plaintiff's choice of forum by filing a motion for a change of venue or to dismiss for lack of jurisdiction.
