Motion to dismiss

A formal request by a defendant to a court to terminate a lawsuit without further proceedings. This motion asserts that the plaintiff's complaint fails to state a claim upon which relief can be granted, or that the court lacks jurisdiction. If granted, the case is ended, although the plaintiff might be allowed to amend their complaint.
