Specific jurisdiction

The authority of a court to hear a case against a defendant whose contacts with the forum state are limited, but the lawsuit arises directly from those contacts. The defendant must have purposefully availed themselves of the privilege of conducting activities within the forum state. This type of jurisdiction is established when the defendant's actions in the state create the basis for the litigation.
