Iraq War Resolution of 2002

A joint resolution passed by the United States Congress authorizing the President to use the Armed Forces of the United States as he determines to be necessary and appropriate in order to defend the national security of the United States against the continuing threat posed by Iraq. This resolution, Public Law 107-243, cited Iraq's non-compliance with United Nations Security Council resolutions and its alleged development of weapons of mass destruction. It provided the legal basis for the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
