Lie detector test

A procedure that attempts to determine whether a person is telling the truth by monitoring physiological responses, such as heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, and skin conductivity. Also known as a polygraph test, its scientific validity and reliability are widely debated. In most U.S. jurisdictions, the results of a lie detector test are generally inadmissible as evidence in court.
