Lineal descendant

A person who descends directly from a given individual through an unbroken line of children, such as a child, grandchild or great-grandchild. Lineal descendants do not include the individual's parents or grandparents, who are lineal ascendants, nor siblings, aunts, uncles or cousins, who are collateral relatives. Intestacy statutes generally rank lineal descendants ahead of all collateral relatives.
