Lost property

Personal property that an owner has involuntarily parted with through neglect, carelessness, or inadvertence, without intending to abandon it. The finder of lost property generally has a right to possession against everyone except the true owner. Many jurisdictions have statutes requiring finders to report lost property to authorities.
