Mandamus

A writ issued by a superior court to compel a lower court, government agency, or public official to perform a specific duty that they are legally required to do. This extraordinary remedy is typically granted only when there is no other adequate legal remedy available. It is used to enforce a clear legal right and a corresponding duty.
