Mining claim

A parcel of land on public domain that an individual or company has a right to explore for and extract minerals, subject to federal mining laws. This right is established by discovering a valuable mineral deposit and complying with specific location and maintenance requirements. Mining claims are governed by the General Mining Act of 1872 in the United States.
