Occupational disease

An illness or medical condition contracted as a direct result of exposure to hazards in the workplace over a period of time. This differs from an occupational injury, which is a sudden event. Examples include black lung disease from coal mining or carpal tunnel syndrome from repetitive tasks, and claims are governed by workers' compensation statutes.
