Occupational Safety and Health Act

A federal law enacted in 1970 to assure safe and healthful working conditions for employees by authorizing the enforcement of standards developed under the Act. This legislation established the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to set and enforce these standards, and to provide training, outreach, education, and assistance. It covers most private sector employers and their workers in the United States.
