Notice pleading

A system of pleading in civil lawsuits that requires a plaintiff to provide only a short and plain statement of the claim showing that the pleader is entitled to relief. This approach focuses on giving the defendant fair notice of the nature of the claim, rather than requiring detailed factual allegations. It is the standard under the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
