Order of examination

The prescribed sequence in which witnesses are questioned during a trial or deposition. This typically begins with direct examination by the party who called the witness, followed by cross-examination by the opposing party, and then redirect and recross-examination. Rules of evidence govern the scope and nature of questions permitted at each stage.
