Relating to spoken words or oral statements, as opposed to written ones. The parol evidence rule, for example, generally prevents parties to a written contract from introducing extrinsic evidence of prior or contemporaneous oral agreements that contradict the terms of the written contract. This rule aims to uphold the integrity of written agreements.
