Parol evidence rule

A legal principle that prevents parties to a written contract from introducing extrinsic evidence of prior or contemporaneous agreements that contradict, vary, or add to the terms of the fully integrated written contract. The rule assumes that the written agreement represents the complete and final understanding of the parties. Exceptions exist for clarifying ambiguities, proving fraud, or demonstrating a condition precedent.
