Privileged communication

A confidential exchange between parties in a legally recognized relationship, such as attorney-client or doctor-patient, that is protected from disclosure in court. The law recognizes these communications as private to encourage open and honest dialogue within these relationships. The holder of the privilege, not the recipient, has the right to waive this protection.
