Rebate

A partial refund of an amount paid for a good or service, given back to the purchaser after the transaction. In a legal context, rebates are scrutinized under antitrust and consumer protection laws to prevent unfair competition or deceptive advertising. For example, a volume-based rebate offered to a large buyer but not a smaller one may be challenged as price discrimination under the Robinson-Patman Act.
