Release

A legal instrument in which one party forfeits a legal right, claim, or cause of action against another party. Executing a release discharges the released party from any further liability related to the specified matter, preventing future lawsuits on that issue. A valid release is a contract and must be supported by consideration, such as a monetary settlement payment.
