Reliance damages

Monetary compensation awarded to a plaintiff to put them in the position they would have been in had they not relied on the defendant's promise or misrepresentation. These damages aim to recover expenses incurred or opportunities lost due to such reliance. They differ from expectation damages, which aim to put the plaintiff in the position they would have been in had the promise been performed.
