Unanimous
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-005027
A verdict, vote or decision supported by every member of the deciding body, with no dissent. A criminal jury verdict in federal court must be unanimous under Rule 31 of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, and the Supreme Court extended that requirement to state trials for serious offenses in its 2020 Ramos decision. Federal grand juries differ, since an indictment needs only twelve concurring jurors out of sixteen to twenty-three.
